FACETUNE YOUR BODY, IRL

March 1, 2020 No Comments
Has anyone else wished they could take the Facetune blur tool and smooth over their legs when you were a little too lazy to shave or fake tan this morning? I know I’m not the only one who wishes they had a glowy décolleté like the models in every swimwear campaign you see on Instagram. Wanna know how I fake this IRL? (at least until some tech wizard invents real-life Facetune goggles) Here are my favorite products for days where I actually care what I look like or hate how my legs look in a sundress.

p.s. Please ignore the scratches all over my arm – the pins on my makeup brush belt always nick me.

This Vita Liberata Body Blur is like pantyhose in a tube. It’s almost like a sheer foundation for your body. It gives medium-to-full coverage and has a relatively matte finish. I love this when I forgot to fake tan and have 10 minutes to squeeze in a few days of laying on the beach.

I decided to try the Loving Tan Bronze Shimmer Luminous Cream I’m a massive fan of their self-tanners. This product is super shimmery but also gives medium coverage. The consistency feels a little runnier than the body blur, but I love the effect that this one gives with flash photography!

So, I rarely reach for the Natasha Body Glow, to be completely honest. I find this body illuminator to be super liquidy but with mostly just shimmer in it. With really light coverage, even though I have the shade medium, I don’t notice any tint/tan with this product. I guess I don’t use it often because I don’t have much use for a shimmery lotion unless its also going to have a glowy effect like the Fenty Beauty Lava or Huda Beauty N.Y.M.P.H. (more on those below!)

I’m a HUGE FAN of the Sol De Janeiro Glow Oil. To me, this illuminator is almost an EXACT dupe for the Fenty Body Lava. The only difference I notice is that this one is a less ‘sticky’ than the Body Lava. It’s more like a dry oil that leaves a sheen and glow. It comes at a really affordable price point and has a variety of shades!

The St. Tropez One Night Only Gloss is TRULY a gloss. It has a little bit of a bronze tint, but it feels like your putting a lip gloss all over your body. I will tell you: it is pretty sticky. However, I’ve managed to make it through the night without rubbing this all over my clothes as long as you apply it after putting on your outfit and are careful to not rub up against anything. (pro tip: A resting bitch face will help fend off people in a crowded bar and protect your body gloss because, like, *priorities*)

This has to be the most hyped about body illuminator on the internet. This thing flies off the shelves every time Sephora restocks it and I’m just so happy I have one. The Fenty Beauty Body Lava gives you such a dewy, glossy, radiant glow. After using this, you’ll literally look like an angelic beacon of light; people will need sunglasses to protect their eyes from the glare. Obviously this isn’t the most necessary purchase, but I can’t live without it. It’s like a perfect accessory that you didn’t know you needed until you try it.

I was beyond excited for the launch of Huda Beauty’s N.Y.M.P.H. Not Your Mamas Panty Hose and, to be honest, I was a little disappointed. I was expecting this to be a less-sticky version of the Fenty Body Lava, but man was I wrong. This is advertised as a body highlighter, but I found the finish to be slightly metallic. I picked the shade Aphrodite because Luna made me look really pale, but I think the shade I picked might be a bit too dark for me. I might try mixing this into body lotion and seeing if that gives a more natural, less robot-like finish. I’ll keep y’all updated!

Now… If you’re thinking, “What the heck do I apply this stuff with?”, I got ya covered. I have this brush that is my fave brush for applying body products. It’s so old I don’t even know when or where I got it, but I managed to find almost an exact dupe online: (if you manage to track down the Ecotools one that I had, let me know and I’ll add the link here!)
I hope this gave a thorough overview of some of the more popular body illuminators on the shelves right now. I’d love to know what y’all think if you try out any of the products I mentioned! Can’t wait to see everyone’s summer glows 🙂

Lots of love xx
